Celebrating 200 years of Johann Strauss
To honor the king of waltz, the city of Vienna has devised a wide-ranging cultural programme presenting 65 productions and 3 exhibitions at 71 different locations in the city.

The Johann Strauss 200 Years Jubilee
Johann Strauss Sohn, composer, musician and one of the first pop stars in world history, will be honoured with an annual event programme in Vienna to mark his 200th birthday. He was not only the most famous creator of the Viennese waltz, but also a true ambassador for Vienna in the world of music. His lively melodies, such as the ‘Danube Waltz’ and the ‘Kaiser Waltz’, are firmly anchored in the culture and identity of the city on the Danube. A comprehensive music and exhibition programme is taking place in the anniversary year. They range from classical concerts to non-classical performances, operetta to spoken theatre, dance to circus, installations to exhibitions, cinema to scholarship.
